Life in Adtech: Streamlining Global Expansion Through Business Operations

This month features Anna Krupnova, Director of Business Operations at StackAdapt. In this post, Anna shares her journey into adtech, what her role entails, and how her team is supporting StackAdapt’s global growth. 

How did your journey into business analysis begin?

At school, studying was always easy for me, and I decided to finish two degrees in Finance and IT. That showed that my unique strength and passion was in areas of information overload and systematization, especially for subjects that are not usually combined together.

I became interested in business analysis and its application to business growth and automation. That’s when I started learning process optimization techniques and applied them in my thesis for a local bank establishing self-serve processes at that time. The results were strong and made me consider this area as my potential career. 

After finishing school, I got a consulting job as a business analyst and worked alongside several professors practicing business analysis on CRM implementation projects. I learned from them analysis techniques, the best practices and then continued shaping my business analysis knowledge through experience in the IT consulting world. All this experience is what eventually led me into adtech.

What is the main focus of your role as Director of Business Operations at StackAdapt?

The Business Operations team at StackAdapt was created to optimize and standardize existing processes, and scale them to support StackAdapt’s continuous growth. Our goal is to streamline global operations while embracing new business processes, tools, local differences, and retaining StackAdapt’s speed of growth.  

My main focus is to identify global processes, services, tools and process owners, and to have a vision for an enterprise architecture within the company. I am very engaged in software discovery for continuous automation and I own a prioritized roadmap that balances short-term business goals with the long-term strategy. 

The biggest aspect of my job includes planning for continuous improvements and coordination of project delivery across teams, to enable our vision for growth. Whether it is one project or 100, my team or an external vendor delivering work, my goal is to make sure we have the capacity to work on the project, knowledge to make it successful, and are able to eliminate any barriers the team might face. Ultimately, I’m responsible for the results of the optimization and automation work and driving it through roadmap planning and prioritization.

How does your team optimize and streamline processes at StackAdapt?

The current Business Operations team includes Optimization and Delivery, Salesforce Development, and Service Desk teams working together to create value. To collaborate efficiently, we practice the Kanban approach which includes a continuous review of incoming optimization requests from every department in the company and their prioritization based on internal factors, and execution.

All the steps we follow require proactive internal coordination. Centralization of optimization requests, an updated roadmap, and also daily status updates help our team manage current and upcoming activities. We also use regular touchpoints to share best practices, reflect on completed projects, discuss what went well and what could be improved next time.

With StackAdapt expanding globally, how is your team supporting this scale and growth?

Our goal is to help StackAdapt scale seamlessly across regions and within already existing functions, deliver large-scale cross-departmental projects, and define processes. It’s all about helping the StackAdapt team adapt to the change by bringing more transparency to the existing environment. 

Recently, we helped with APAC expansion by coordinating the scope of support for the new region and service conditions. We also created documentation on internal sales processes to help the new team members adapt faster and have a reference point on existing processes.

How does your team collaborate with other teams at StackAdapt?

Every request my team receives is a collaboration opportunity. It’s a chance for us to engage with other StackAdapters to create value in internal operations, and to make cross-team collaboration more optimal. We work with every team in the company on reviewing current processes, pain points, optimization recommendations, and also automating manual activities. This includes frequent touchpoints with management teams, discovery workshops, change management training sessions, and decision meetings.

What is the most rewarding part of growing a team as a senior leader in adtech?

I’m always motivated by seeing the impact that our team has on the company. We exist to help our team members do more with less. Seeing the results of our optimization work in action and also building a team that is recognized on all levels in the company is an absolutely rewarding experience. I am also fascinated by the internal desire to be proactive, innovative, and accept the change in the environment of constant growth. That demonstrates our culture and I can’t wait to see what results we bring in 2022!
